Evelyn skirt with Gabriela from Chalk and Notch

  • Studio Sessions 2924 College Avenue Berkeley, CA, 94705 United States (map)

We are thrilled to announce the Evelyn skirt workshop with Gabriela, the designer behind Chalk and Notch patterns!

Gabriela will share her knowledge and skills to make this spring staple (midi or mini): a high-waisted skirt fitted through the waist, with front buttons and a high slit for the midi version. From cutting to finishing, you’ll learn the best tips.

You’ll learn:

  • Attaching Facings

  • Understitching

  • Buttonholes

  • Sewing a casing with elastic (if you choose view C)

  • Serging/overlocking raw edges

Materials:

  • The pattern will be emailed to you after you sign-up

  • For size and fabric requirements, see chart

  • Buttons

  • Matching thread

  • Interfacing

  • Elastic (if making view C)

Price: $320

To answer your questions about sizing, fabric choice or the workshop on itself, we will do a Zoom call on Tuesday, March the 23rd in the evening.

Meet your instructor:

Hi, I’m Gabriela, the owner of Chalk and Notch patterns. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about what we do here! I’m a pattern maker and a mom. I went to college for Fashion Design to become a fashion designer but fell in love with the art of pattern making. I was lucky to work in the apparel industry as both a pattern maker and a product developer for eight years, but ultimately I decided the apparel industry was not for me.

In 2015, I found the sewing community through blogs on Pinterest. I was excited about transferring my industry skills to build a sewing pattern company, a more ethical alternative to fast fashion. I released my first Girls’ pattern in November of 2015 and my first Women’s pattern in 2017. I am so thankful to have found this incredible online sewing community. I started this business on my own, but it’s been exciting to grow and work with amazing makers along the way.
