Textile Origami fabric manipulation

  • Studio Sessions 2924 College Avenue Berkeley, CA, 94705 United States (map)

On June 14th, join Kristine Berg, a textile artisan with 50 years of experience in theatre, film, and costume, to guide you through the precise, meditative practice of origami fabric manipulation. With a ruler, needle, and thread, you will follow measured pathways to transform fabric into sculptural forms that echo landforms, waves, and basketry, all arising from intentional folds and carefully placed stitches.

This 4- hour workshop enables participants to learn to create a grid, interpret and copy a design pattern, and create a 3-d sample. Most participants complete two different design samples in that time. Kristine offers suggestions and advice for how to use the samples in a cushion cover, a bag, or in a garment, as well as historical information about the technique.

Skill level: Participants need no sewing experience beyond the ability to thread a needle.

Price: 185$
Needles, thread, scissors, and masking tape will be provided.
Participants should bring 2 half yard pieces of solid color medium weight fabric, preferably two different fibers. Linen, cotton, silk, wool, rayon, even polyester works well.
